Rolling Thunder
Office Chair Obstacle Course
Team Production Project -- 2018
Team size: 7
My role: Lead Designer
Timeline: three months
Engine: Unity

Rolling Thunder is a racing-mayhem game for two to four players about speeding downhill in office chairs. It was designed to be a chaotic obstacle course where the players have only some control of their chair’s direction, and have to find the safest way to the end of the course. The controls are simple enough that players can control where they’re going, but control is also limited enough that new players can have as much fun crashing down the hill as experienced players.

In this game we tried to make the most of the slapstick entertainment of its simple premise. With the limited timeline of the project, we spent most of the production tuning the design and layout of the three courses. As design lead, much of my focus was on the control of the character, to ensure it struck the balance we wanted between control and mayhem.

While the project remained simple, I believe we were fairly successful, even getting the opportunity to show the game at PAX East at the booth for Champlain College. It was the perfect environment to showcase the project, with how easy it was to pick up and play, and players' laughter at their spectacular wipe-outs drawing in more of a crowd.
